Crystal forms directly determine solubility, stability, flowability and downstream processing performance of pharmaceuticals and fine chemical products. Controllable fabrication of special morphological crystals such as dendrites represents a highly challenging topic in modern solid-state R&D.
Conventional tank crystallization introduces high shear from agitation and drastic fluctuation of supersaturation. It tends to trigger instantaneous massive nucleation (runaway nucleation), crystal fracture and poor reproducibility of target crystal forms, which extends overall R&D timeline.
One of our clients spent years working on the R&D of snowflake-shaped dendritic crystals. Multiple batches of experiments failed to stably produce target crystals meeting specification requirements, holding back project progress. After receiving the technical request, our crystallization R&D team sorted out project challenges promptly and customized the crystallization process according to material properties of the client. Experiments were carried out on our integrated crystallization platform. Full process validation was completed within 3 days, and snowflake-shaped dendritic crystal samples were successfully prepared.
Multi-parameter coordinated regulation of the crystallization system enables directional crystal growth. The high-precision temperature control unit maintains stable system temperature; dynamically adjustable supersaturation prevents sudden massive nucleation; low-shear fluid design reduces impact on crystal particles and minimizes crystal breakage. Combined technologies alleviate typical drawbacks of traditional tank crystallization, including runaway nucleation, crystal fragmentation and difficulties in crystal form control.
For crystal form development of pharmaceutical intermediates and fine chemicals, this controllable crystallization solution greatly cuts down the time spent on preliminary crystal screening and process exploration. It accelerates target crystal preparation, morphological characterization and parameter collection, helping clients speed up solid-state R&D and reduce material and time costs caused by repeated trials. It also provides solid process basis for later pilot test and industrial scale-up.
