The mechanical agitation fermenter tank is one of the common types used in the fermentation plant. Several basic requirements are needed to make fermentation tanks as follows:
1. Proper scale of diameter to height: The dimensions of fermentation tanks should be carefully considered, with a suitable ratio of diameter to height. Typically, this ratio ranges from 1.7 to 4. Longer tanks tend to have a higher oxygen utilization rate.
2. Ability to withstand pressure: Bio fermenter tanks must be designed to handle the pressure and temperature that occur during normal operation and disinfection. All components of the tank should have sufficient strength to withstand these pressures, both hydraulic and pneumatic.
3. Effective stirring and ventilation: The fermenter tanks should be equipped with stirring and ventilation devices to ensure thorough mixing of gas and liquid. This promotes the dissolution of oxygen in the fermentation broth, providing an adequate oxygen supply for microbial growth and fermentation.
4. Sufficient cooling area: Microbial growth and metabolism generate heat, so fermentation tanks need sufficient cooling capacity. This helps to control and regulate the temperature at different stages of the fermentation process.
5. Minimized dead corners: Dead corners in the tank should be minimized to prevent the accumulation of dirt and facilitate thorough sterilization. This helps to prevent bacterial contamination and ensures a hygienic fermentation environment.
6. Tight seal for agitators: The seals of agitators should be tight to minimize leakage. This prevents any potential contamination or loss of materials during operation.
